I have a 2000 Advanced server SP1 workgroup comprising a production web server (IIS 5) and a production database server (SQL Server 7 Enterprise Edition). There are matching accounts on both servers. The DLT tape drive is on the database server. There is a PIX between the two servers.
I need to schedule backups. I have labeled the tapes (239892), and resolved the 0x2d error (Q264604). The first scheduled backup runs. The second does not. I am therefore at the Q267574 stage.
To resolve the error "Operation was not performed, because the specified media cannot be found", Q267574 suggests (a) waiting for SP2, (b) using the beta of a new ntbackup.exe or (c) one of several options that include a regedit step.
I am contemplating using the newer (but beta) copy of ntbackup.exe. However I have no standby server on which to test, it. I have already discovered that the zip file one FTPs to obtain the beta ntbackup.exe expands to produce and .exe that, when it is run autoinstalls with no warning. It's now installed itself on my laptop!
How many of you feel that 3rd party backup solutions are always a better way to go - and if so, which one?
I would very much like to hear from anyone who has been through and resolved the Q267574 step.
Thanks in advance.
