I'm trying to figure out the best way to track various counters, such as cpu utilization, available memory, etc, on various machines including two web servers and two database servers.

I can use performance monitor to view current stats on these boxes, but I want to have this information being collected regularly so I can track performance over weeks and months.

I've been playing with perfmon, but it seems to really only do a current snapshot rather than a historical snapshot. I don't understand the logging function but it doesn't seem to do what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know of a utility or app that does this? Preferably free or already included with NT Server?

Jim,

Not free, but we've been using NetIQ for awhile, and it is wonderful. Full history and graph's of all counters, can page you, email you, flash message you, etc. of different alerts. If you're serious about monitoring, then cost is not an issue, and you should definitely check it out.
