can't receive internet mail

I have configured a customer's Exchange 2000 Server for Internet Mail. I can send email out to Internet Email addresses, but when I send Internet Mail back, I do not receive it. internal mails does work sending and receiving
how can I (a) configure the Exchange server to accept email from Internet addresses

Any help would be greatly appreciated
