Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : SP3 INSTALLS BACKDOOR TO YOUR SYSTEM!
Windows 2000 SP3 installs the auto update service which in turn allows MS unrestricted access your systems configuration and data. (read the EULA !) The EULA even says so! It goes on to state that MS reserves the right to share your information with whomever they please. Even if you disable the Autoupdate feature the workstation or server service continues to contact MS (I have proven this with a sniffer) It uses TCP port 1025 and switches to another port if you block it. You can't turn it off even by hacking the registry. This is bad news to say the least if you any concern for personal privacy. Big brother strikes again!

Could it be blocked at the router or firewall?

I installed it on a standalone computer 4 days ago. I am running a firewall from CA that records all outgoing attempts on any port. So far, since I installed SP3, it is showing only normal traffic and the same IP's that it always shows. No attempts at all on anything but 110 and 80 with the exception of one attempt on port 225 but that was over a week ago before the SP3 install.
I believe this firewall will notice any attempts at outside communication by anything in my system. I could be wrong of course.
