hello

I wonder If anyone can help me with a strange problem I have been experiencing with an NT4 Server.

I recently set up a compaq proliant server with the following roles

SMS Site Sercer
BDC
SQL Server (only for SMS)

On spaoradic evenings, for all intents and purposes the servers seems fine, validating logons, servicing access requests, being RPC'd from remote PC's. Everything, no problem at all. However if you go to the server and logon, you are given a logon box, you enter your credentials, click ok and thats it, youo get the 'ok' aqua blue screen as if it's going to ask you next if you want to change your password. But nothing at all happens, that same aqua blue screen stays there, although again, remotely is is funcioning normally. The only thing that clears itis a reboot. When back up there is no indication as to what might have been causing it what so ever.

Strange - has anyone any ideas ?

Sean

What is the hardware specs of this server? Have you checked system resources for a baseline and compared that to when the server hangs? Does this happen at approximately the same time every day (or every week, etc)?

Depending upon hardware, and the size of your domain and SMS site, that server could be getting hammered. Especially if you are trying to run any kind of reporting through Crystal. I just installed a dual 800 to take care of the same scenario.
