Hi,
We have a new machine that has Windows 2000 professional on it. I am
attempting to connect to an exchange server in an NT4 domain. All
networking options appear to be set up properly, as far as I can tell. I am
able to browse the Microsoft Windows network and find all computers. I am a
member of our domain. I even put an entry in the hosts file for the
exchange server. However, whenever I try to connect to the exchange server
in any way, the system simply freezes. This includes the initial "check
name" in the mail control panel. Has anybody seen this? Can anybody offer
some insight? I've set this up tons of times on win95 and 98 clients
without incident. BTW, I don't have DNS running on the network, but have
the machine set to use the proper WINS server (WINS is considered "legacy"
by Win2K).

I have received recommendations asking me to check if I could map a drive,
which I can. I also am having no troubles authenticating to the domain. The
only recommendation I haven't taken is a COMPLETE removal of Office 2000 files.
I just did a standard uninstall and then re-installed. Apparently there is a more complete
uninstall routine on MS's technet. However, microsoft.com is down...

Well, this was long-winded but I wanted to give as much information up front as possible.

Try putting a static mapping of the exchange server in your Hosts file. This might resolve the timeout issue.
