I recently installed Win2kpro after having WinMe. I had to download new drivers for my Conexant 56k modem but now when I connect the modem is very loud. It makes that sort of fax staticy noise the whole time your connected. I've tried nurning the modem speaker off but it doesn't work. I've heard theres a script or something u can use to fix the problem, dcan anyone help me?

Well there is something you can try. Go to CONTROL PANEL --> PHONE AND MODEM. Click the MODEM tab. Select your modem and click PROPERTIES. Under the ADVANCED tab there is a section called EXTRA INITIALIZATION COMMANDS. In that section try putting "ATM0". With out quotes and it is a ZERO. That should help you. It sets the speaker to ALWAYS OFF. You can also try the following:

ATM1 -- "Speaker on Until data carrier is detected"
ATM2 -- "Speaker is always on when modem is off-hook"
ATM3 -- "Speaker is off as digits are dialed, then on after dialing, until carrier detected."

Another thing you can try is:

ATL0, ATL1, ATL2, OR ATL3. These are the loudness settings. With 0 being off and 3 being loud.

Good luck

Thanks Matt, none of those actually turned it off but one of them made it considerably less loud. Now I just have to find one that turns it off.
Thanks again

Well at least we are going in the right direction. What type of modem is it?
