We are experiencing a problem with sending e-mails as another recipient. We are running Exchange 5.5 SP3 servers with Outlook 98 as the client.

Users are sending e-mails to a mail account in Site A. The Support Desk monitors this mailbox, their mailboxes reside in Site B. The Support Desk replies to the e-mails sent as another mailbox in Site B called ~Support Desk using the From Field. The Support Desk has ‘User’ rights over the ~Support Desk mailbox and therefore have ‘Send As’ rights.

When replying the Support Desk click on the From button in Outlook 98 and select the mailbox from the Global Address List. When the originator of the mail receives the reply it is from the mailbox that physically sent the e-mail as opposed to the ~Support Desk mailbox in the From field.

If however the Support Desk type in the address in the From field and choose ‘Check Names’ as opposed to choosing it from the GAL the mail appears to be sent with the correct mailbox stated in the From field.

The users do not use Personal Address Book’s. This is very bizarre, has anybody seen this before?

Thanks in advance for your help.

S:-)
