Does anybody have any insight to running Exchange 5.5 SP4 on a Windows 2000 server? We will be upgrading our NT4 box to Windows 2000, but not upgrading Exchange just yet.

I’ve just upgraded a PDC on one of our smaller sites to Windows 2000. The server was running Exchange 5.5. The upgrade was basically point and shoot, as long as your Exchange server is running service pack 4 just run the Windows 2000 set-up as usual. So far we have had no problems with Exchange since the upgrade and indeed none of the network users even know that we have performed the upgrade!

It works fine, although Microsoft doesn't support it. The only requirement is that Exchange 5.5 be at least SP 3. Additionally, if you wee to install Exch 5.5 on a Win2k Server, you will get a message saying something to the effect that it will not run. You can ignore this. Just make sure the first thing you do after rebooting is run SP3. As always, have a good backup. Good Luck

We did a migracion to W2k with Exchange 5.5 and faced little problems. There are some documents on Technet for you to look at. In particular a step by step quick instalation guide on setting up w2k with Exchange 5.5. There is also an article on Windows 2000 Magazine network, Exchange Admin.. that documents the procedures... and some possible hickups

Good luck
