I have the daunting task of proving for what reasons I need local box admin
priveleges in order to properly administrate a SQL Server.
Any good Ideas?

Well .. it's a daunting task because you don't need local admin permissions to fully administer the SQL side of the server. If your NT account is listed in SQL as a (DBM?) ... check the security options through the SQL admin tool ... You can do everything you need.
