Hi !

We use exchange 5.5 sp4 on NT4 sp6a in a NT network and I must create a second Exchange server (different Org and site) on a new server
machine with a new name, because the old machine
is running out of disk and it's to old for upgrading.
I have tried to use the InterOrg synchronization tool to
import the containers from the old server
but it won't work, nothing happens.
The event log doesn't tell me anything special either, just ending with "InterOrg: CCoord Begin: 4 M=0 R=1" while the service are running. I read the Microsoft articles about this tool including the troubleshooting guide, but these documents doesn't help me very much. I'm wondering if this really is the right tool for this kind of operation anyway. Does anyone know if there is another way to do this or does someone have I real life experience, either with the InterOrg or with other methods. If this information is to pour pleas tell me and I will give you more.

We need to change the org/site, because the org name
is the same as our companys former name and the company
do not want to use this old name anywhere.
We also want to have this names as neutral as
possible, in case the company change it's name again.
The current backup software we use for the moment is
the Windows NT backup, exchange aware of course.
Have you done a operation like this before ?

consider exporting the user list from old server, then import to new server
and use the exmerge utility to move mailboxes
are you connected to other exchange servers?
with a large global address list?

We will only use one exchange server and are not
connected to any other.
But I'm not really certain about what you mean
with, "exporting the user list from old server".
Do I use the exmerge utility for the entire opration ?

use header.exe to create a template of what you want to export
then from exchange admin>tools>directory export export the users.
on the new server exchange admin>tools>directory import.
this process will recreate the users mailboxes on the new server.
then use exmerge from old server to export mailboxes.
then use exmerge on the new server to import the mail.

clear as mud right?

microsoft has several articles on use of both header.exe and exmerge
hope it helps

Trouble !

Read about the exmerge (Q265441).
The article says that I need twice as much
disk space then the priv.deb file holds.
Our edb file is 22 GB and there is only 600MB left on the disk.
This is one of the reasons why I have to move the Exchange server.
Any ideas ?

map a drive to the new server,, if your connecting at 100mb it will move
over the wire just a little slower
or pick and choose people to move in smaller groups

Build your new server with the new organization name. In the Ex5.5 SP4 tools, there is a move server wizard. This will let you move your Ex5.5 server from one organization to another organization.
