Hello,
Here's my setup... I have:
A domain name with InterNIC (let's say MyDomain.com)
Set up an account with Zonedit.com to act as the authoritative DNS(s)
A DSL line at home
A single static IP address through my ISP
A linksys router, which I have assigned to my IP address
A W2K server which I've assigned an internal IP address to (192.168.1.100)
A W2K workstation which I've assigned an IP address to (192.168.1.102)
My W2K server is set up as a PDC, with DNS installed and running
Here's my problem(s):
When I try to log into my domain from my workstation I get no errors, but I cannot connect to any shares on my server. I can ping 192.168.1.100 from my workstation and I get <10ms times. When I run nslookup on my server it works properly, but when I run it on my workstation it times out trying to work with 192.168.1.100 and goes on to the default DNS server (run by Zonedit).
So, my questions:
What DNS records should I have set up on my PDC? I have an A record for server.MyDomain.com and an A record for workstation.MyDomain.com. Both are set to the INTERNAL IP addresses. I also have a reverse zone setup for 192.168.1.*, which is set to MyDomain.com. Should I be using the internal addresses here?
Any thoughts on why my workstation cannot connect correctly?
Also, when I ping MyDomain.com from my work computer (outside my intranet) it resolves to the correct IP address, but the pings timeout. Is this related, or a totally different problem?
Thanks for any help!
