I wrote about this over on my O'Reilly weblog. In a nutshell, I bought a LapGenie and am totally happy with it. It's on the expensive side at $139, but it's so comfortable I can live with the price tag. Wish I hadn't been so cheap and had gotten it sooner.

Hmm, I do spend a fair amount of time working on my laptop. My main motivation if I did buy it would be keeping the heat source off my lap.

Well JPync, when you're old and grumpy and parts of you take random turns at aching, then it's good to have something like the LapGenie :)

I'm already old and I was born grumpy :)

How about http://www.lapdawg.com/ ?

It's more versatile than the lapgenie and it does the same thing.

Check the galleries...pretty neat.

I bought a Core 2 Duo that runs cool. I use it about 25% of the time, 6 hours. It is never turned off because it receives alerts.
I don't find it so warm that I can't use it balanced on my lap while enjoying a hammock or easy chair.

I don't need no stinkin' laptop desk. ;)
