Information store crashes with Dr watson error

For about two months I have been having intermetent problem whereby illegal characters in email address has been shuts down the Information store in my exchange server 5.5 with service pack 3. Each time such mails are sent dr watson pops up with store.exe failure.

A temporary fix is to delete the message, what is a permanent fix for this problem.

Don't know if this will fix it, but I'd certainly start with SP4. These are just the sort of issues that are addressed with service packs.
