hello sir,
iam an university student doing a project on "web server sizing" using benchmark. if you have any whitepaper discussing detailly the server sizing using benchmark,or any link containing this subject,

in this project i have got doubts:
1) what is server sizing ?
2) difference between performance and benchmark
3) why we need benchmark ?
4) what are the advantages of benchmark?
5) tools available in the market?

inthis i have planned to use linux, apache server, perl scripts,c++,loadrunner for creating virtual n users.
plz help me regarding this

suggest me regarding following implementation in my project

1) perl scripts for capturing the performance of a web page

2)how to store the o/p of perl script in a logfile?

3)how to store the contents of logfile to database?

4) specify c++ wrapper in sql library to compare the results?
