Hi,

I am setting up a network for my department and can not decide whether to have a server-client or data replication. I am working from a laptop and have another partner using another laptop and same program. However we need syncronise the data and upload to the main server in our headquaters. Should I use server client solution or have a replicator for the 2 laptop. What are the advantage and disadvantages of the 2 solutions. Thanks
Pauline

tell me:

The laptop's will never work outside your netword, and you are connected to the server on the network. all the time

or

You probably work off-line and will nedd to upload your data to the server.

remeber:

in a server client solution, the surver must be up when you are working, right???

I have a main server in a building but I also have users working out of the building on laptops and offline. Usually there are 2 users in one location and there are off line. I have been told by my vendors that in order to input our findings, we ought to use 1 laptop as a client and the other a server. So when 1 users input any data, it will syn to the server laptop and at the end of the day upload to the main server at the HQ from the server laptop. Alternatively can use 1 laptop as server and the other as a replicator so both are able to syn with each other at real time replicating data on both laptop. However before we decide I would like to know which is the better choice besides the need to pay more for the replcator. Thanks

My definition of server is a reliable machine keept in a secure place. Not a laptop!

Reading your post, i'm sure that a integration solutions is the best. In a time of the day, the remote users send their data changes to the server, and then receive the new data form the server. The local users, may use their laptop with wireless and stay on-line.

you said:" .... besides the need to pay more for the replicator"
Are you a programmer? Or are you buying a solution?

To help you more (in a programmer prespective) what the kind of software/information are we dealing (Inventory, sales, ...)
