Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : one exchange server, two ISP connections....
I have one exchange 5.5 server.
I have two connections to the internet via different ISP's. This is done for redundancy. For the sake of this post, I'll call them ISP1 and ISP2.
I have one MX record for our DNS entry.
ISP1 has a firewall to allow SMTP in and out. ISP2 has a firewall that does not allow SMTP.
What must I do to allow mail to flow in/out if ISP1 goes down?? Which it does on a regular basis.
I realize I'll have to make the appropriate firewall rules and I realize I'll have to add another MX record. But, what must I do on the exchange server since I have only one??
Thank-you.

Eric
Thsi is a most common scenario. The first thing is U need redundancy for your mails so choose an second ISP who wud permit SMTP and make him as ISP2 and then on the DNS entry make two MX records (ofcourse with different priorities) and also if u hv. a firewall provide two static NAT translations ( one static IP each for each ISP). You don't need to do anything on the exchange server if u r doing the NAT on the firewall.
Hope this helps
Kalyan.
