My Customer does not want to use XCH 2000 Server to send emails, but only to access Public Folders. Emails are now received and sent thru Outlook Express and POP3. When I configure an XCH Server Profile for the user with OLK XP to access the Public Folders, together with several other profiles for his POP3 accounts, the XCH Server grabbs all emails and adds the W2K root domain name to the address. The recipient can not return the mail, as the DOT.local domain name is not listed in DNS.
The client has several SMTP adresses with the same name, e.g John.Miller@ISP1.com and an address John.Miller@company.com hosted at his companies ISP.
We solved the problem by sending all mails to a smarthost (mail relayer) and maskerading the domain name, i.e., changing the name from company.local to @company.com.
The Server can not send emails to other SMTP servers via DNS while not being known in DNS (except to yahoo.com who seem to accept all communication).
How can we prevent the XCH server from grabbing the mails while being connected via MAPI, but sending mails directly to the mail relayer of the ISP?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
