When I try and connect to our Win2K VPN server with a Win2K Pro client, the client gets authenticated onto our network but a window appears on the client that says "Opening port" and it just sits there forever.
Does anyone have any ideas what this is actually trying to do here?
Thanks is advance for any help

What method of connection is the client attempting to the server (dial-up, DSL, etc.)?

Can the W2K client PING the IP address of the Win2K VPN server before the connection attempt? How about after the session appears to be established but hangs at "Opening port"?

Is there a firewall being used? If so what ports are being allowed into the network and then back out to the RRAS client?

Thanks for the reply.
I'm using a dial up connection to try and connect but I haven't checked to see if I can ping the vpn server during the connection phase - will try it as soon as I can and there is no firewall in the way for this test

Just checked it out and I can ping the server before and whilst it says Opening port BUT I didn't say that we have a managed Cisco router between the client and the vpn server that it is trying to connect to.

If you can, take a look to see if you are performing detailed logging on the system and if not enable it.

Check and see if there are any messages in the error log before and after attempting the connection and after you get the "Opening port" message.
