We use a Dell server (Windows 2000 Pro) Pentium 4 with 0.5G Memory...
Recently we added all win2k patches from microsoft.
We run SQL Server 7, IIS 5 on the server and is on Local LAN.

Since adding the patches, the server takes almost 15 minutes to reboot and also it will not Auto-start SQL Server. A Manual re-start of SQL server starts the server but takes another 15 minutes to work properly. Opening of any window (like Explorer, or any application) is very slow...

Before adding patches, the server worked fine.

Any help is appreciated...

demi

I recently encountered the very same problem when upgrading the NT4 Network to Win 2000 Advanced server. In my case the issue was that the DNS was not set up to get to the right machine therefore the authentification was taking for ever.

Check and make sure that no _ are in any machine names as well.

Should all else fail remove SP2 check and see if the problem still exist. If not then re apply SP2.

Hope this helps
