On my Exchange 5.5 server, when I double-click on the Internet Mail Service
connection, I get the message

Extension `SMTP` could not be loaded.

You do not have the permissions required to complete this operation.

Microsoft Exchange Directory
ID no: DS_E_INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS_RIGHTS

_Abort _Retry _Ignore

I am logged on as Administrator!

And when I click Ignore, I get right in.

Something is wrong, but what? And how do I go about fixing it?

Thanks!

Jim

When you first load Exchange it prompts you to specify a account that you would like to make the administrator of the Exchange information store or in simpler words who you would like to have full administrative privileges to Exchange. If you specified a different account other than admin then you will get that message. The best way to find out is to open the Exchange administrator program and then highlight you site. click file then properties then look at the permissions tab. It will then display the accounts that have access to the Exchange and what kind of access they have you want to be logged on with the account that has service account Admin as the role and that should do the trick!
