Slow Speed in Exchange

I have recently discovered that the speed in connecting to Exchange Server getting slow & slow when I open the Outlook.

Is it due to the no. of mail is accumulate and more and more in the Exchange server so that the speed is slower than What I setup the exchange server in the initial stage ?

Are you running local hosts tables ... if not, you should. What about WINS/DNS servers ... any in your site. Also, what version of Exchange ... and
when was last time you defragged stores and had your users purge unneeded mail, both from inbox and deleted items folders?
