If I install NT Server on a machine currently running NT Workstation, are all [existing application]Registry settings maintained or do I have to re-install all application software as well? Anyone any experience of this?

From my experience with NT, I would say no. One possibilty is to use the emergency repair disk with a
backup of the registry handy and try to repair after the install, but that is risky at best.

If you are installing NT4.0 Server into a new directory than you definetly must reinstall all of your applications. It will not take up any hardware space but the Server registry needs to be aware of the apps. The emergency repair disc is not an option! You do not want to restore the registry of the workstation to the server installation.
