Hi there,

I`m new member of this forum. I`ve bought a PC last 2 months ago
with a pre-installed Windows 98 in it.

Now, I decided to have dual operating system with NT 4.0 Workstation.
The Installation was fine, but the problem is, the NT 4.0 W/S could not recognize my internal modem. It works fine in Windows 98 as a COM2 but not in Windows NT 4.0 W/S. Does any of encountered this before? I you already have, please I need your advice.

P.S.
I`ve also tried using NTDETECT.COM, but still don`t work.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, I have similar problems with my current machine. Turns out I have what is called a WinModem meaning it is for use with 9x only.....some what. Also, I double checked, and my sound card is wired into my modem to allow for voice mail. Works great in 95 but NOT NT.

I did manage to get my modem to work by going to the vendor site (in this case Lucent Technologies & HP) and obtained the correct NT drivers. However, I could and still haven`t managed to get my sound card to work at the same time as my modem. So I simply go without sound in NT....guess I could go buy a good sound card.

If you already have the NT drivers loaded and configured, I would check out conflicts with other devices, especially your sound card.

Hi
First you should try to enable COM2 or COM1 from the BIOS if that does not work try installing the Pnpisa from the win NT cd in drvlib.......

I have the same problem, I read the below in somewhere:

"This is a nuisance with NT4 WS and Server when using SB cards.

The solution is to go to drvlibpnpisax86 (or Alpha, MIPS, etc) on your NT
CD , right click on "pnpisa.inf" and select "install".

Reboot when prompted

Log on as Administrator and when you see "New Hardware Found", choose
"Driver from disk provided by hardware Manufacturer".

The SBPNP driver is located on your NT CD at: drvlibaudiosbpnpi386 (or
whatever)

Select OK on the "Select Device" screen

Select "Manual Configuration", resolve any IRQ conflicts, and you`re away!

These instructions are available in text files on both your NT4 CD and on
the Creative Labs driver CD. You just have to hunt for them a bit."

good luck
