I have a 5 domain network, 4 of my exchange servers are sitiing in a resource domain, I would like to get rid of that resource domain and move them into my main NT domain, I would like to do this with renaming my servers or org and would like it if the other sites and domains were not affected by this in any way. Please help.

Hi Missy,
One way to do that is by making use of Exmerge utility, although this is not the recommended way. If you use exmerge consider the fact that the size of the information store can go higher than the existing priv.edb because of the single instance message storage feature.

Another way is by restoring the database (using a backup software like Backup exec by veritas) to a server with a different name but the same site and organization name. This takes care of the databases. For the recipients you have to export and import them using exchange administrator. Test it carefully.

Hope this helps,
Leonard

What about the service account, this is a different domain with its own pdc and the other domain has a pdc, I am not moving servers just domain and keeping exchange on the same servers.

If you know how to change the service account then your problem is solved, otherwise see:

Using exmerge utility doesn't have a problem with the service account. The idea beyond is for you to move mailboxes from one server (existing in the old domain) to the new server (in the new domain). If you want to use the same hardware you might want to build an identical copy of the old server in the old domain in another box and then install exchange in the original server and perform the transfer. Or you can export all the mailboxes in pst (using exmerge), rebuild the server in the new domain and then import pst files. Of course you should build the recipients before importing.

I will check the other option later.
