Problem: RAS clients (both dialup and VPN) using Outlook do not resolve Exchange Server name and fail to connect after about 5 minutes. Using MAIL configuration icon in control panel using "check name" finds the server. TCPIP is the default protocol... adding Netbeui does not solve the problem. DHCP is used on the RAS server for IP addressing, WINS server is also configured and DHCP returns WINS address to the client. PC has full time internet connection via cable modem and therefore a NIC installed. I Have tried moving the rpc binding order protocols to find tcp first(then tried moving netbeui to see if changes the result... no luck. Is it possible that the ISP DNS server is somehow getting in the way?

I had the same problem. It was resolved by adding both "hosts" and "lmhosts" files on the client machine, with the IP of the Exchange Server and preloading the domain - see the sample files in the Windows directory.

In Outlook when you configure the Exchange service try putting in the ip address of the Exchange server instead of its name. I was having this problem and when putting in the ip address it found the server right away.
