Hello,
I've tried for 2 years to get RIS to work. I have
everything that MS says to do, DNS, DHCP, Active
Directory, all functioning.
I setup a RIS server on a separate partition formatted
NTFS.
The DHCP server is authorized. I use a Boot floppy from
the RFBG.exe. I am using a 3Com card which is allowed by
RIS.
When I put in the boot floppy, the machine sees the DHCP
server because I can see that it gets an address from the
server. However, I then get the message "no reply from a
server. Press a key to reboot system".
What is going on? How can MS expect us to use this when
no one can get it to work?

Ris works great. I dont know about the bootdisk, but it gets a DHCP address and then gives you the message cant find server. This is an indication that it cant find the RIS server.
Is the RIS server also the one running DHCP?If not then on the server running DHCP you need to authorize the RIS server. (I found that both had to be active directory if the RIS server was AD then the DHCP had to also be running AD) If it is the same server, then in the remote install tab of the properties of the server is a verify server button. Use it to verify that all is ok.
There are a few server options that can be set as well on the DHCP. I cant remember them right off hand, but a search of M$ should find them.
Are you prestaging? If not make sure that you do NOT have the box checked that reads something along the lines of only allow authorised computers to access RIS.
