Hi all,
What is the best way to do an Emergency restore of system files after you have applied Service Packs. I had always used my original NT install media (NT 4.0 Build 1381), then followed this up by reapplying service packs. I have also used a SP CD to do the restore. This had always worked before, but the the last time I did this on an NT 4.0, SP4 machine, I couldn't log in at all. Did I mistakenly restore the wrong SAM?
I have also heard of a problem with doing an ERD after SPs that concerns the NT tcpip.sys driver that can cause this problem.
Does anyone know the proper procedure.

Thanks,

After you've installed Service pack 4 or above. You will need to create the 3 boot disks using winnt32 /ox. After that on setup disk 2 the file setupdd.sys needs to be replaced with the one from the service pack cd. The amended disks then should be used if you need to repair NT.

Also, when you create the ERD use the command "RDISK /S" this will save the security configuration.
