Best way to Move Exchange 5.5 to new Box with SAME Name

I need to move our Exchange box to a new box with SAME name as the old box.
I am aware of KB Q155216 form Microsoft.
Has anyone used it and does it work? What kind of down time should I expect?

Alternatively,

What if I shut down the old box (after backing up the neccessary folders).
Then remove it from the domain.
Bring the new box online With same name as the old one.
Restore the entire Exchange directory to the new box?
Will it work? This is my understanding of the KB article am I right?
