I am attempting to use EXMERGE to export my Private Information Store to a .PST file in preparation for an upgrade...in case the worst happens and stuff blows up. When I run EXMERGE, I recieve the following error in the EXMERGE.LOG file:

[11:16:15] Error creating Message Service (MSPST MS)

A search on that error message produces the following MS QB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q174197

...which has the following to say:

"Make sure that Exchange client is installed on the computer that Exmerge.exe is running on."

Now, is there something more involved in that than simply installing MS Outlook on the server in question? Because I tried that, and it did not fix anything.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

It's been a while since I used Exmerge but here's how I use it. I did not run it from the server. Installed on my workstation. I remember I received error messages and had to copy the mapi32.dll into the Exmerge folder (on my pc). I copied it from the exchange 5.5 server. See it that works.

Those other 2 replys are correct - if you are running outlook 2000 or above, you will need to the mapi32.dll from your exchange server, but dont overwrite your existing one, just put it in the same dir as exmerge.
