I changed the TCP/IP address of one of our BDCs and the change did not get reflected on our WINS servers.
Senario
PDC - xxx.xxx.99.11
BDC - xxx.xxx.99.12 SQL server called SQLDEVL (actually a cluster virtual server)
BDC - xxx.xxx.99.20 SQL server called SQLPROD
Intent is for SQLDEVL to become the new production server. So I;
Changed SQLPROD to xxx.xxx.99.14
Changed virtual server SQLDEVL to xxx.xxx.99.20
Even after 1 day the WINS server still did not reflect the address change. (I did a PING SQLPROD and it came back as the old address)
1. Is there a way to force an update on the WINS server.
2. Even after the address was deleted from the WINS server, when I did a ping from my NT workstation, I got the old address. When I rebooted the workstation, I then got the correct address. Are these addresses stored in cache, and if so, is there a way to flush the cache without rebooti
