When some of my users log in to our network they receive several mapped drives of the same directory. They continue to collect every time they log in. Has anyone seen this before?

If you map a drive, create a shortcut to something in the mapped drive then delete the mapped drive, whenever you access the shortcut the drive will be remapped. Either disable link tracking in a policy or educate your users! It's been 6 months since I've touched an NT box (w2k is so much better). I used to use policies to disable link tracking because of this exact problem and map drives automatically through the policy based on NT user groups. I'll dig up the scripts I used when I get home. It would seem to indicate the policies will be in one of the .adm's included in the Zero Admin Kit. If you can't be bothered to find the relevant adm, just add a line to one of the existing adm's on the box you're defining policies on to reflect the registry entry. If you struggle to do this, I'll try to find a spare NT 4 box and work it out. If you want to map the drives automatically, map a drive the n do a registry search for the path of the mapped drive. From that you should be able to modify the ADM's. Sorry I'm asking you to figure it out rather than giving you a straight answer but I don't really have the necessary tools to hand at the moment. Darren. Explorer Context Menu Category: Windows NT Shell Subcategory: Restrictions Selection: Disable link file tracking Description: When enabled, link file tracking uses the configured path shown in properties for the shortcut to an application in-stead of the absolute path. This option disables link file tracking. (This option was added in Service Pack 2.)
